Badass Fictional Females
Related to my childhood crush list is the list of fictional females that have shaped me. I often wonder how much of our values and attitude are natural inclinations and how much are a result of external influences (am I drawn to archetypes that reflect an innate vision, or have I formed the latter as a result of being exposed to said archetypes?). Regardless, I’m glad to have had these, albeit fictional, weapon-wielding, sharp-tongued, yet uber-femme role-models growing up:
Max from Dark Angel
Foul-tempered and genetically engineered to kick your ass.Lara Croft from Tomb Raider
Pistol-wielding English rose with a penchant for plundering.
Buffy from Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Snarky Cullen-slaying high schooler who first inspired me to wear my hair in a bun.Alanna from Tamora Pierce’s SotL quartet
Hot-headed Lady Knight extraordinaire.Xena from Xena: Warrior Princess
“Warrior in a quest to seek redemption for her past sins as a ruthless warlord by using her formidable fighting skills to help people.” WARLORD TURNED ALTRUISTIC WARRIOR.
Mulan from Disney’s Mulan (and history, too, I suppose)
SO glad Disney’s only Asian ‘princess’ is a BAMF who does the saving.
They are all heavy into single combat…surprised you didn’t play warrior or rogue… lol
